About Fantasy Name Generator
Free, instant, lore-accurate names for every character, race, and world you can imagine.
What Is This Site?
Fantasy Name Generator is a free tool built for tabletop RPG players, dungeon masters, and fiction writers who need great names — fast. No sign-up. No ads in your face (well, a tasteful few). No "premium tier" that locks the good stuff away. Just click, get names, go play.
We cover over 50 generators spanning every major fantasy race, class archetype, and world-building category. Whether you're rolling a tiefling warlock at 11pm the night before a session, writing the tenth chapter of your epic fantasy novel, or trying to name the tavern your party keeps burning down — we've got you.
Who Is This For?
Pretty much anyone who has ever stared at a character sheet and gone completely blank:
- D&D 5e players — roll a name as fast as you roll stats
- Pathfinder fans — lore-accurate names for every ancestry
- Dungeon Masters — NPC names on the fly, world-building names for kingdoms and taverns
- Fantasy fiction writers — consistent, evocative names that fit your world's tone
- Video game players — name your RPG character without the blank-page paralysis
- Worldbuilders — village names, city names, dungeon names, guild names, all of it
How Does It Work?
Each generator draws from a hand-curated list of 100+ names built for that specific race or archetype — drawing on established fantasy lore, mythology, and the naming conventions players and DMs have been using at their tables for decades. Hit Generate, get 10 names instantly, copy the one you like. That's it.
Everything runs in your browser. No server calls, no tracking your searches, no data sent anywhere. Pure client-side JavaScript, as clean as a freshly rolled nat 20.
Why Did We Build This?
Because we've all been that person — five minutes into session, the DM asks "what's your character's name?" and you say "uh... Dave." Dave the Half-Orc Barbarian has now lived in our heads rent-free for three campaigns and we refuse to let that happen to anyone else.
Good names make better stories. A tiefling called Amnon Velafar hits differently than a tiefling called Dave. We built this site so you never have to be Dave again.
Questions or Suggestions?
We're always adding new generators and expanding name lists. If you have a race, class, or naming category you'd like to see added — or if something's broken — drop us a message. We actually read them.
